If 我一米八 ( wo3 yi1 mi3 ba1) means 1 metre 80 centimetres then how does one say 1 metre and 8 centimetres in Chinese? I thought ba1shi2 was eighty? I think I am confused.

Andy, 180cm is 1.8 meter, right?

when we say *米*, we take meter as our unit. so we say 1米八.

As to 108cm, it's 1.08 meter, so we say 1米零八.

1 metre and 8 centimetres in Chinese you can say "一米零八"

1 metre and 80 centimetres in Chinese you can say "一米八零" or "一米八"

 

比如：

A: 你多高？

B: 我一米八。（我一米八零。）
